Linked by their usage of compression technology, DVD and the Web make compatible partners when it comes to creating high quality full-screen video with dynamic data on demand. From the point of view of producers who want to create exciting video content with e-commerce links and information downloads, Web DVD seems to be the way to go. Some of the more adventurous developers have already stepped boldly into the fray.

In this report, technology editor Bryant Frazer takes a look at some of the successes and problems related to Web DVD development. Already tried in the music video application area, but with tremendous potential for business-to-business applications, Web DVD development has hit some roadblocks related to standards and compatibility issues across the various platforms. As with all areas of production technology, what's true for today changes quickly tomorrow. This report takes a state-of-the art look at Web-Connected DVD today, setting the stage for a new story tomorrow.
